Week 6

This week we have been focusing more on praying for others, I gave Isaac the responsibility to choose who we prayed for. We have been talking more on how important our family and friends are to us and what it means to be a good friend.
I was quite astonished that Isaac knew what was important and how to pray for it for our friends and family. First it was his little friend Dominic, we prayed for safety of him and his family. We then prayed for his friend Sam, that his parents would protect him and follow God(his words!). He's such a little prayer warrior already! He has also started to recognizing that when he heres a ambulance there is someone that is in need of help so he wants to pray for them, usually we are in the car so we all pray together for the ambulance workers, the people that need help and also the family of those people. It's been amazing to see his little heart grow and identify other people hurts.

Friends of ours gave us this sunflower head, we have spent so much time already picking the seeds out and still haven't gotten them all. We will be drying and eating them this week!
We talked about how God has made all these seeds from flowers to feed the birds.

I also had a opportunity to explain to Isaac that some babies that are born are not able to go home from the hospital right away. I had made a few meals for a friend that had her baby early and he had to stay in the ICN at the hositpal. We talked about why I was making the meals and what it would was like for that family to have one of their family members not with them. We talked about how the family went a saw him and we prayed for him. He really understood the pain, he was in tears talking about the family and the baby being without them.
We used our dried leaves from our nature walk and made cards to mail to family members.

The boys so proud of their cards!

Science is a big part of my son's growing life, he is his happiest when doing experiments, observing change and figuring out how things work.
This was our change in Matter experiment, we even "guessed" which ice cube would melt faster and watched as they changed. We talked about what things are liquid and solid and how they change.
This was our foam experiment, we watched as the gas and bubbles shot out. They liked this one, we even repeated it a couple time :)

The boys playing with their "boats". We talked about cargo and how boats work, why they have compartments and what happens when they get weighed down.
Math- Making own patterns and learning of quantities in two's.

Silliness on library day!

Pumpkins, Clowns, and Animals

This past weekend we travelled to one of our favourite spots to pick our pumpkins for carving. It is always extra special when the boys get to visit with Oma too!!!

The air was crisp and the ground was wet as it sprinkled light rains on us through out the day. We almost didn't go due to the weather and one of the boys feeling a bit under the weather. We always have a great time doing this traditions, this was our 4th year of going with the boys. I like traditions, they give a sense of togetherness and give us memories to play back in our head once we get old and start to forget the time when the kids were so small.

We warmed our tummies and hands with hot apple cider and hot chocolate, we sampled pumpkin butter, salsa and apple juice made from their different types of apples..as this is a apple orchard.
We take the famous tracker ride up the hill and find your favourite pumpkin in the field. The kids are growing so fast that every year is so very different down too their choices of pumpkins, their reactions to the train ride and even how they navigate through the upward hill over mounds and obstacles of pumpkin vines.

We always bring home collection of apples and a big jug of apple juice.

Of course we had to visit the goats and feed those over weight goats!
The boys thought Chris the Clown was great! He really did keep the kids laughing!

Week 5

I finally did our kindergarten photo, only a month into school :)

This little guy surprises me everyday, his curiosity and capacity is amazing!
We are working on Sorting Rectangles, Translating Quantities, sequencing, ordering and more sorting. We are up to lesson 12 in our math, I have realized that he really actually likes work sheets so we have been supplementing the Right start Math with them.

I borrowed a bible from our resource library, it has all different Tales of Virtue and this week was about Honestly, we are fond of reading these together. Iks continues to attend Awana's and is more and more motivated to memorize verses (insert Momma's Happy Dance- here) yay!!

Ikes also made his first ever mini book this week for science it was about materials. Isaac found the materials in our house then drew pictures of them in his book.

We have continue to watch the leaves change colour on our daily activities, we went on one of our daily bike rides and found all different types of leaves. We are drying them to do a craft with this this week. Maybe a card to a family member or friend.

Ikes enjoys geography and is continuing to learn how to read and use a Compass Rose.

Finding leaves, Ikes really liked this tree it was rather beautiful. It is remarkable how a child can see God's beauty.
Making a card for a friend of theirs that they miss so much! I am sad for him that he won't see his friends as often :(

I had two little delightful helpers baking cookies with me this week. They measured, mixed and ate!!

The boys working on their Thanksgiving collage in their scrapbooks.
They cut out all the food we ate on Thanksgiving from the flyers and pasted it.

Thanksgiving Weekend

This week started of great, a extra weekend day is always awesome! Love having three day weekends. I'm thinking that should be our mantra for our household :)
We spent the thanksgiving weekend in Kelowna with our extended family. We had a great weekend eating, resting, visiting, drum playing, mole eradicating, apple tree bonsai, and tire inflating. It was a fun filled weekend!!!

We had the lucky
chance to see all
different types of
bonsai trees and
learn about them and how long they live. It's was quite fascinating.
And yes those are real apples.

The boys learning how to fill a flat tire with air alongside with Opa.

I guess it doesn't sound like a rest day really but it gets me out of the house in the AM and that is hard to do any other day in the week, so I enjoy it :)

The Dad's Post

Week 4

Last weekend we went to the family cabin at Green Lake.
We got there at about 10:00pm Friday night to see about 3 or 4 deer scatter in the yard.
The boys were excited.
While we were there we observed all of the different types of trees and how to distinguish them apart. We also learnt about wild berries and which ones not to eat on our nature hike we followed a path through the forest and Isaac learnt that the path we were following was made by wild animals traveling back and forth in the same place over and over, day after day.
Finally, we learnt about safety around a fire. It was a great weekend!

It was Great Grandpa's birthday so we wrote to him to tell him we love him.
The boys were so happy we got to ride the quad all weekend.

Week 4 Cont....

It is fire prevention week, therefore I wanted to prepare the boys for a chance to visit the fire hall.
It all started with such a great book, Dragons for Tea -by Jean Pendziwol.
We spent time learning and practicing "Stop, Drop and Roll". We made a family escape plan with a map and a safe zone! Then we practiced and practiced. We tested our smoke detectors and talked about why and how we test them.    It was such a great homeschool moment!
We talked about hazard symbols and "found" them through out our house. I am thankful there are not many in my home.

WARNING!!! LADY IN VIDEO MAY BECOME ANNOYING!! with all that BEEPING!!!

Corn Mazes, Bee Hives, and Fire Drills... Week 4

We started the week off great, we went out to Tranquille Fresh Farms were we meet a bee keeper and his bees. The Bee Keeper showed us his bee hives and educated us on how he extracts the honey comb from the hives without being stung.  The Keeper explained about the queen bee and what her job is and what all the other bees jobs are too. He showed everyone the centrifuge where the honey is spun at a really fast speeds to draw it out and then put in to a container to dispense. The Keeper gave each child a piece of honey comb to try..they chewed it and tasted the honey left in it..... this was sticky, gooey, kind of like carmel sticking to your teeth.
The kids were able to fill a jar of honey and purchase if they wanted. We brought his jar home to enjoy as it is raw pure honey and to reminded us each time we have some honey that we know where it cames from.
The hives with an electric fence around them to keep the hungry bears away from them :)
Our Jar!! That's a lot of honey!

At the Farms, we were also able to participate in a Corn maze, we read a map while doing our maze trying to navigate thru 5 acres of corn!

LOTS OF FUN, AND CORN...MAN THAT IS A LOT OF CORN!!!

Just loved this picture so I had to add it.

Ocean in a bottle.

We also watched this time lapse of corn growing..  I love things like this...it's so hard for kids to completely understand how things grow unless they can see them.
We are heading to a corn maze today and to meet a Bee Keeper today...field trip fun!!!

Corn Growing.

Happy Monday to you all!
